WEST CASE PARK

As Columbus' west side continues to grow, the city identified an opportunity to expand its metro park system while addressing a clear community need. A historic 200-acre sheep farm offered the perfect canvas, but the question was how to transform it into a park that truly serves the neighborhood.

  • The answer came directly from residents. Through community workshops, surveys, and online engagement, a consistent theme emerged: people wanted gathering spaces, not another sports complex. They envisioned a place for festivals and farmers markets, for family reunions and neighborhood celebrations: flexible spaces that could adapt to how the community actually wants to come together.

The design creates distributed gathering spaces across the 200-acre site. A new multipurpose event center anchors the park, providing a flexible venue for everything from cultural festivals to wedding receptions. The plan also integrates a park forestry office, supporting the site's ongoing stewardship while adding essential park operations infrastructure.. The approach maintains the site's pastoral qualities. Open meadows, existing tree lines, and the rural landscape that makes this location distinct from other metro parks in the system.

West Case Park will give Columbus' west side what residents have been asking for: a destination that brings people together and strengthens community bonds. By listening to what the neighborhood needed and working with the site's heritage rather than against it, the project delivers a park designed for how people actually want to gather, celebrate, and connect.
