CASE STUDY: Brick House Blue At Innovate New Albany

Innovation is often discussed in terms of programs, investment, and talent. Less often do we talk about the environments that make those things possible.

As communities invest in entrepreneurship and economic development, there is growing recognition that innovation needs a physical home. Not just a place to work, but a place to gather, share ideas, form connections, and access resources.

That challenge helped shape Brick House Blue at Innovate New Albany, a first-of-its-kind partnership between the City of New Albany and Brick House Blue. Together, they envisioned a destination that could support startups, established businesses, mentors, community leaders, and innovators under one roof. The result is a flexible environment where coworking, programming, events, and collaboration intersect to strengthen New Albany's entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Rather than separating work, learning, and community engagement, the project brings them together. Open coworking areas, meeting spaces, social environments, and specialty amenities create opportunities for both planned interaction and chance encounters. The space is designed to evolve throughout the day, supporting everything from workshops and mentorship sessions to team meetings and community events.

What makes this project particularly compelling is its role beyond the walls of the building. Brick House Blue at Innovate New Albany serves as a visible front door for innovation within the New Albany International Business Park, transforming economic development from an initiative into an experience people can participate in every day.

We're excited to share the full story and explore how design can help create the conditions for connection, growth, and innovation.
